| no partners | | Had an appointment at the dealer for my suv nearby so made my way to the trail head for Piestewa summit trail, intending to hike the circumference or freedom trail.Cloudy day but did not see rain in the am forecast for Phoenix, started about 0630 to the summit first. Already a fair number of folks heading up to take advantage of the cooler day but not extremely busy. On the way down turned on the 302 trail, it’s been a few years since hiking this area so not too familiar with these trails. About the time the trail starts turning from east to south east it started to rain. Initially pleasant with the way the desert smells after rain ,did note it was a cold rain with some ominous clouds nearby. Sure enough as the trail is climbing up, the thunder lightning and hail began, became cold and wet pretty quickly only lasted about 15 minutes though. Not being familiar with these trails I inadvertently experienced the Perl Charles trail, kept deluding myself that it looked familiar, but believe now had never been on it before, had only seen 5 other hikers since starting the 302 trail ,with the rain now stopped fortunately met a single bike rider who advised me I was heading north on this trail and should be heading south to return to the parking lot.Nearby there was remnants of an abandoned trail heading south that connected back with the 302 trail , so still able to make my appointment and had dry clothes with me. |
