Judy and I (Kai has torn ACL and is waiting for a surgery date) were looking for a hike near by that was little used so we could keep a safe distance from others. Started on Overton CW and took the spur labeled West Boundary. After about a half a mile there is a step over where you leave CCRP and enter State Land Trust property. As we headed NE there were several dirt roads. Twice we beared left until we walked into paved Saddle Mountain Rd where we turned around and returned the same way. After looking at Google Earth when we got home it looks like most of the time we were on E Bentley Mine Rd.

We only passed one other hiker on the short stretch of Overton Trail so accomplished a hike with few others.

This little loop marks for us the completion of hiking all the trails in the Cave Creek Regional Park. Most of them we've done many, many times but this hike finished the park off in it's entirety. In the photoset is a map of the park and todays loop is the little one on the far west side. My GPS messed up again, (I don't think it likes lithium batteries) so I resorted to an old school photo of a map. :( The pink lines mark all the trails we've completed.

Todays trip was very scenic and we used a route posted by @mt98dew a while back. It involved some minor wash walking and going under a barbed wire fence to exit the park boundary. This allowed us to follow an old double track trail north to then re-enter the park at it's western boundary spur trail. A short climb back up to the Overton Trail and then back down to the parking lot closed the loop.

Returned to the area that I hiked on Monday, working on the trail/roads that I missed on Monday. I started from the Visitor Center and took the Overton clockwise to where the Western Boundary Access trail met it. If you look due west from this juncture you'll see a fairly tall hill. I proceeded to do all the roads and trails (more roads than trails) south of that hill and between the park boundary and 26th St. This was mainly ATV tracks though there were a couple of short paths that horses and hikers have created over the years. (Primarily, just connectors between these ATV tracks). Followed a very steep trail up the west side of the aforementioned hill (elevation 2340). Started doing some of the roads north of this hill as well. These roads are closer to the homes back there and look to get more motorized traffic. Actually had a motorbike zoom past while I was in that area. On my return trip, just prior to gettin back onto the Overton Trail I saw healthy looking 3pt buck.

Day 1,
I took both my pups up to Cave Creek Regional park. We did the ClayMine, Overton West Boundary, Jasper trail, and parts of the slate and Go John Trails.
Day 2
On day 1, I hadnt planned on hiking the rest of the park all in one day. If I had planned better, I could have shaved 2 miles off todays hike. I did a lot of backtracking today. Day 2 started out perfect. Great weather with an early start. I only took my Jack Russell (Miss Ellie) with me today. This is her first hike with out my other dog. We did the GO John trail, backtracked to the Quartz trail. Then we did the Flume trail forward and backward. Then the slate trail a little past Cave Creek, then backtracked back to the truck. Miss Ellie did great! We didnt take any real breaks. She stopped running back and forth around the 5 mile mark, and kept pace the rest of the trip. I dont know how dogs do this, but when we got close to the truck she knew we where close to the truck. Her paced picked up the last 1/4 mile. She remembered that part of the trail from 2 days ago.
All the trails in the park are great trails, except the flume trail. The flume trail is hiking on the desert floor. 1 mile of the trail is on an access road.

Miss Ellie learned a valuable lesson.. Dont chase birds into a cactus. http://hikearizona.com/photo=404850 This picture was taken, after I took 20% of the thornes out. She did very well during the surgery. She didnt chase any birds off the trail after that.
