I decided to wait a few weeks for the traffic to die down. Hikers were walking through the construction zone during the week to get to that trailhead, so I figured there would be high demand once it opened. Official hours are sunrise to sunset, similar to Scottsdale. However, since SRP hasn't yet energized anything there, it's basically 24 hour access for now. I got there about 6:30am to a pitch black trailhead, and still one more car there before I was.
I headed out to the Ridgeline Trail and back to the trailhead. The further you get out on the Ridgeline, the more you can see of Adero Canyon below, as well as the newly expanded ADERO resort (formerly Copperwynd). It was interesting to get a birds eye few of the streets and infrastructure that I normally work with and know what I was looking at. On the way back along the Ridgeline, a group of trail volunteers were doing maintenance on the trail, maybe trying to work a bit more on it. It's still a little rocky in places compared to the other trails in this area. I talked to the one guy and he said they will be building another new trail soon on a ridge to the east called the Lower Ridgeline Trail. Another reason to come back one day.
After getting to the trailhead, I headed out on the Promenade, Sonoran, and Lower Sonoran Trails, doing a lasso loop. Nothing of any great interest seen other than an empty raptor nest in a saguaro. Looks like it's a little more cloudy to the north, looked kind of chilly. The weather was cool all morning with light breezes. Nice to be in the middle of the cooler weather to hike near home. |
