| | 5.9 | Toprope | | 1 Pitch | 60 ft | | | My second time climbing in this area. 2/3 of us made it up Sphinctre Boy. It gave me a run for my money but I remained persistent and got the send once again. 
Afterwards, we headed over to Dog Gone It. All 3 of us were able to finish this route. Headed back to the car on a good note.
Beautiful day to be out, despite the horrendous air quality in the Valley. |

| | 5.9 | Toprope | | 1 Pitch | 60 ft | | | Spent the day exploring the different crags in the area and finished up with Sphinctre Boy. Daylight was fading fast so I climbed with urgency. It turned out to be a good lesson in trusting my feet rather than hesitating. Felt awesome to top out on my first 5.9.  |

| partners | | No rock climbing - but just wanted to walk on the Rock Climbing access route to Morrell Wall.
Explored around some. Beautiful hop bush in bloom. Some neon green ferns.
MSC does not patrol or maintain the rock climbing access routes - but I want to go on all these trails in the next few months.

| no partners | | Had a day off from school because of Veteran's Day--and used it to play in the McDowell's. I got my first trad and sport leads in!! woohoo!
Loved the very short approach--(dang it, I'm sounding more and more like a climber instead of a hiker!)
Apparently there are upper and lower crags to the Morrell's Parking Lot Area. Each of them on opposite sides of this boulder area---also different from the Morrell's Parking Lot Rock. (see pic)
This is actually the North side of Morrell's Parking Area. There appear to be 7 routes on this side of the rock/boulder formation we did 6 of them before running out of time. To the best of my knowledge these routes are not named.
from left to right as you look at the rock
1. Unknown (guessing 5.5 or 5.6)
2. 5.8 (up the subtle arete)
3. 5.7 (starts in the dish)
4. 5.3 (uses a corner)
5. 5.6 (just over to the right from the corner)
6. 5.9 (left of the thin crack)
7. 5.9 (uses the thin crack)
Always wondered how I would know when it was time for new climbing shoes. They seemed to be loosing their grip on my last trip and this time they literally fell apart......toes out......apparently that is the sign  |
