There was no parking left on a Friday around Noon at the King canyon trailhead so I was forced to park at one of those popouts on the road about 1/4 mile West of the trailhead. I bushwhacked from the road to King canyon and following the canyon up for the first mile or so. Then I switched to the King Canyon trail until I hit the Sweetwater trail junction. Made a left turn and went all the way to Wasson peak which was another 1.2 miles from there I believe. On the way down I took the unmarked branch of this trail which was described in the guide. I bushwhacked to Peak 4236, continued across to the other unmarked peak and then followed the ridgeline down clockwise until I ran into the main trail heading down to the King canyon trailhead. It was about an hour of bushwhack which wasn't too bad overall. When I got back to the trail it was very easy to follow back down to the King canyon wash and then back down to the parking area and road. This was my first time doing this loop and I would do it again someday but on a less windy day!

I have not been up Wasson in a few months and I had been eyeing this one the last time I had, albeit in February...I saw BobP hit up quite a few peaks in Utah last week, so I had to try and keep up with a good dose of low desert fun. :D Got to the trailhead a bit before 3 for the start. Did Peak 4236 basically just like the description, up King's Canyon to the no-name trail, up that to just about the Sweetwater Saddle. I took off up a drainage to the peak, a little bit of loose scree, but better than some of my recent off-trial escapades. Sad to say, the summit log seems to have disappeared, I spent a few minutes searching around to no avail. Back down to the trail, and then over onto King's Canyon again. The whole way down I kept thinking, Brown Mountain is right there...by the time I got back to the van I had decided to get in a second peak. Made the quick drive down to the Juan Santa Cruz picnic area and started off again. I popped a couple Nuun tablets in my cup for a pickup, boy was I glad I did. I drank it down quick at the start of the trail, and within about 5 minutes I had an almost Popeye-spinach interaction, I felt a huge burst of energy! Managed to make it to the top without a stop, took a quick look around and then back to the van. Saw a coyote on the road on my way out of the picnic area. Hit up the DQ in Casa Grande on the way home for a tasty chocolate dip cone. Good times!

Went out on this little favorite local desert loop. Went opposite this time, up Kings to Sweetwater Saddle then scrambled up to 4236 to sign the log directly underneath my name from 2 years ago (not a lot of traffic up here) then back down the wonderful Trail With No Name. The most flowers are along the north slopes.

Wonderful trail. We really enjoyed this one. The trail is across from the Desert Museum. Saw lots of petrogylphs :) and old, giant saguaros and lots of wildflowers.

I was looking for a short hike near Tucson to do with my daughter and this one fits the bill. Unfortunately I messed it up...so maybe this log will help other non-Tucson-locals avoid my mistake.

Nick's description is good but I fill in a few details. First the trailhead is not well marked, but it is easily found, about 200yards northwest of the turn-in for the Desert Museum and on the other side of the road. The main trail stays high (right) leaving the trailhead.

Where I fouled up is at the 1 mi mark where the wash you're ascending is crossed by the King Canyon Trail. Actually the wash splits at almost exactly the same point. Go up the right branch of the wash - this is slightly before the trail crossing - I somehow parsed the hike description in a way that we stayed in the left branch.

We continued up another ~0.4mi, realized we were wrong, and did a little bushwacking until we hit the King's Canyon Trail. By now we're off the written description and frankly I haven't a clue which peak is 4236!. (Garmin GPS maps just don't match that well with USGS Topo maps.) We could see an obvious loop though that headed up (on the King's Canyon Trail) to the nice saddle and down the other side of the canyon. This brought us down the wash that we should have turned up! So we did the loop (accidentally) but skipped the peak. Back at home looking at USGS Topos I see peak 4236 is very close to the saddle.

Out early today for a quick hike. The early morning saw chilly temps, much wind and some very wild skies of blue mixed with threatening clouds. In other words, it was pretty weird out. Very cool though.

This little loop has a bit of everything, if you don't have all day.

Overall, it was a unique morning and I had quite a good time.
