First hike out after a long interruption of hiking activities due to moving and new job. Once again my first hike out in my new state was with Jim Lyding, I see the guy maybe once every 6-7 months but when it do it is QT. This hike was my first through the Redwoods that are not around my house and it did not disappoint. The trail is well defined and can be a fast one if need be. Got a few glimpses of Monterrey Bay but the haze and lighting made it a little NON HD. Light foot traffic and cooler weather made this a great day. Stopped in Boulder Creek on the way back to pick up some Chinese Food at the Red Pearl for that North East New Years tradition but luckily this is California so I could order and get it in less then 6 hours :y:

Jim, I ordered the State Park Pass so start lining them up.

Took a friend of mine up to see the bomber and summit. Sun, rain, wind, hail and lightning made this an interesting trip. Got lucky and had a break in the storms for a fairly clear and windy summit. Hiked with Phil, Wendy and Wendy's dog Sushi for while, nice folks hope to see them again sometime. Cold beer and pizza afterwards rounded out a great day.

Ticked this one off the list, and it was one hard tick to get. Camped right before "the ledge", at Royal Arch, Toltec Beach and the junction of S Bass and the Tonto. Checked out Elves Chasm and actually had the place to myself for about 10 minutes. Overall water was not much of an issue except while coming across the Tonto but some pools in Copper Canyon fixed that nicely. This was by far one of he best trips I have ever done and camping at the arch is easily one of my top 3 camp sites. The effort was worth it on this one.

Although we did not make the summit I bet there were no gnats up there. Cold, wet, foggy and WINDY. The wind close to the summit knocked Kyle and I around like we weighed nothing, the wind decided if we could stand, move on our feet and where we went :D

The crash site was amazing in the weather we had, would like to go there again when it is sunny and spend some time exploring all of it.

To mix it up I extended a route I have taken many times before. Starting out at the small lot at 104th Street and Bell I headed into the preserve and picked up the Levee trail taking this to the end and headed over Paradise trail to pick up the Gateway loop to Bell Pass Trail. I took Bell Pass trail up over the pass and down to Windgate Pass Trail, at the junction of Bell Pass and Windgate Pass I headed east a little on Windgate Pass and picked up the East End trail and took this up to Tom's Thumb trail. I then took Tom's Thumb trail back down to Windgate Pass trail to Gateway Loop Trail and followed Gateway Loop back to 104th street trail. Nice hike and you do not see many people :y: until you get back to the Gateway loop and then you see a whole lot of people. :(

Nice hike and even a little snow to give it that perilous feeling. :scared: Had not put in that kind of miles in quite some time so I was dragin arse alot, but the solitude was well worth it. Look forward to doing that trail as a backpacking trip, there were some nice places to camp up in there.

Up from Carny and down Siphon this was a long one for having just taken a month off. This was a fun hike with a good group of ground pounders.

Started at Pinchot Cabin, down U-Bar over Barbershop and back up Houston Brothers. Had a nice camp at Barbershop spring, much nicer then trying to stay at Barbershop Canyon. The weather held out made for a great weekend. Prime Rib sandwich @ Rimside Grill to top it off :)

This was a very cool overnighter. We started out by heading up Pumpkin Trail to the summit of Kendrick and then down to the old cabin where about a dozen HAZ'ers were going to inhabit Camp te-wa. The following morning we headed down to the Pumpkin trail head via Bull Basin trail. The weather was outstanding and the views were plentiful. I had a blast on this trip, got to meet several HAZ members and was introduced to some very cool hammocks. Look forward to more outings like this.

Fun trip, the scree gully was a little hairy but other then that it was a cake walk. Accessing the trail head from the east(87N to 188S to FR143) is much nicer then coming in from the west, half the distance on the dirt roads but longer on the tarmac. Afterward no need to have your suspension replaced or other various items that decide to stay behind.

Joe was right, this hike will push desert dwellers. Breathing up high proved to be the task you paid the most attention to, it was great. Get a little light headed, stop and have clearity almost right away. I accompanied Wally Farak and Jim Lyding on this trip, I think next time I will have to hide some bricks in Wally's pack ;)

Overall it was one of the best hikes I have done, the company was great, the scenery was stellar and best of all I did not have to hang out in 116 degree heat all day:)
