Did this as a backpacking trip over two days, heading to Juniper Basin campground and then back to the Javelina trailhead. You gain about 2850 feet, overall with all of the ups and downs it is closer to 3500 feet of uphill. I found this to be incredibly tiring, especially with a heavy backpack on. The way back is twice as easy (at least!) as the way there. With heavy backpacks and a lot of breaks it took 8 hours in and 4 hours back. With lighter loads it would be comparatively easier, but don't underrate the difficulty of this trail. It is very scenic, especially at the campground where there are lovely pine to camp amongst.

I have done both the Sendero Esperanza trail and the Hugh Norris trail to the top of Wasson Peak, but this was the first hike along the Sweetwater trail to the top of Wasson. This trail is a mild meander through low desert trending gradually upwards with nice views across a small valley before you hit the saddle from which the trail heads upwards in a similar fashion as Hugh Norris to the top. This final mile or so is fairly steep and produces spectacular views along the way and at Wasson Peak itself. It was fairly warm on this trail even in mid-March, especially in the low desert portions that are screened from the wind. Recommended, but not so much in summer.

Hiked this trail to the saddle, about 3 miles up. This hike is incredibly sustained and hard on the knees. We had to turn around because some members in our group were having knee issues and we were running out of daylight. I have done the entire hike before and it is always difficult. I consider it an accomplishment just making it to the saddle. Recommended for incredible views across the canyon and at the top of Kimball. The saddle isn't bad either. Train well for this hike, it is incredibly steep and there is almost no shade. Definitely NOT recommended during summer.

This is actually the first segment of trail you take when you are on your way to climbing up Rincon Peak. This first section winds across a stream for about 1.5 miles of easy hiking before you start heading directly uphill through tons of manzanita. The terrain is basically a rocky sluice punctuated by sections that open up to reveal grand views of the surrounding mountains. Towards the top the trail finally crests a ridge and you are treated to a short section of relatively level hiking, then some climbing to gain a saddle, and then some more level hiking until you hit the trail junction. There is something psychological about the uphill hiking, because you are often in narrow channels with the view remaining fairly similar in the sluices you can feel like it is never ending. The uphill nature will cause you to pause and catch your breath quite often. This is a very nice hike with nice views of wildlife (we saw deer and many birds), interesting stacked rocks, and mountain vistas. Recommended.

This hike follows the trail to Bridal Wreath Falls, and then continues on where the trail branches off before the turnoff and short hike to the falls proper. There is steady climbing over a series of small hills following a ridge with good views, and then you dip down behind the hills and down into a small valley to get to the Douglas Springs Campground. This is a nice area with access to a toilet. On the day we went we experienced high winds and a little rain. This didn't impede us at all, as everyone in the group was prepared with rain slickers. We experienced nice golden hills with junipers and manzanita as well as great views across the canyon to Agua Caliente Hill and in some cases towards Mt. Lemmon. Highly recommended.

Terrific little hike, not a lot of elevation gain, but spectacular waterfalls and nice hiking across and beside streams. Nice valley views and nice views of Tucson framed by the valley sides as you head back. Be careful crossing streams as it is easy to slip and hurt yourself. One of our party did so and we used the tram to take her out. The rest of us all returned to hiking and spent quality time at the falls, which are very full and freely flowing as of this writing. Go and see them now.

Sirena has the best triplog for this hike... but I will echo some of what she says. This trail is beautiful, and like many I hadn't done it despite its accessibility. This is a long, hard hike with a false summit that I am glad I was prepared for. You begin in typical low desert going up to attain a hill and then hiking up and down drainages, tending gradually upwards. You find an open area with a slimy pool and then proceed upwards to a saddle. Eat lunch here, you will thank yourself for doing so, because after the saddle comes False Hope Hill. Soon after the saddle the desert gives way entirely to an almost Golden Hills of California look, characterized by the disappearance of all cactus and the presence of golden grass, manzanita, and junipers. After slogging up False Hope, which you actually skirt just below the summit, you will then drop down slightly before a col and then ascend the final 0.7 miles to the summit. And ascend you will. I left my somewhat heavy pack on false hope for the final ascent which is very steep and has somewhat insecure footing. It will take you quite a bit of slogging but the views on the top are incredible. Descending this is tricky to do without falling and I would recommend that everyone leave heavy packs at the base of the climb if you can. Once down, you can admire the views on the way down, which are consistently excellent the entire way. The way back will take the remaining wind out of your sails because the downhill portions from Agua Caliente Hill and False Hope are tough on the calves and knees. The views make up for the energy loss. Do yourself a favor and hike this trail, because despite its challenges, the views are some of the consistently awesome I have seen.

This hike is pretty boring. You do have the advantage of hiking between two areas with picnic tables so you can relax and eat and have some shade. Nothing much to see except a couple of saguaros, although heading down hill you get better views than on the way back. This would be a good trail on which to horseback ride, and I did in fact run into a man doing just that. Definitely not a summer hike.

This was a very enjoyable hike. I would caution those who do it that you need to watch out for the section of the hike that branches up to the ridge. Going right (up) takes you up the ridge, going left takes you to the mines. When you head up the ridge you are going to encounter very steep hiking for a short while, and you need to watch where you are going because the trail can be hard to see. In general, bear right when you can, you should find yourself hiking next to a large rock wall after a couple hundred feet. After you clear this part the trail becomes easier and more distinct and you are treated to fantastic views. You can spend some time meandering along the spine of the ridge. The hardest part is on the way down. You need to be prepared to take it slow and careful on the way down because the footing is somewhat loose and it is steep. You aren't near any cliffs but you could still pitch down the hill if you aren't careful. Exceptional views await you. You can still get exceptional views at the saddle, which involves none of the harder hiking just above it. Enjoy.

This is an absolutely wonderful trail. This is a must do if you live in Tucson. During Spring the wild flowers and blooming ocotillos are lovely. Even if you don't want to make the push to the summit, at least do the hike up to the saddle. Lovely views from the saddle, spectacular views on the way up from the saddle and incredible views at the top. This also makes a terrific moonlight hike.

This hike is an okay hike. It is a good winter hike because of its low elevation, and views of snow capped mountains in the distance were nice. Currently, the Wentworth Trail is closed for restoration, so you won't be able to use it. These trails are perhaps the worst maze of trails I have hiked in Arizona, or best, if you like mazes.

A pleasant meander through low desert scrub. Hardly any water. Relaxing.
