This was a fun hike! Started way late for my reputation as the sun was already up.... All joking aside I still did get a little cold a couple times especially in the shadows on the back side but I'm not complaining. Again, I love the views on the upper canyon and was really noticing this time that the trail looked like it was well traveled. However, I have never seen anyone else up there. Always great to hike with Kat and it was great to hike with Bob again and meet Wally. Kat was gracious to share her yummy cookies, thanks Kat! :y: (we were all patient and didn't ask her when she was going to open that pack up as we had suspicions they were in there).

Yes, Bob had a scale with him to share the precise weight of the 37 lb. rock that he sent tumbling down the mountain. If he was wondering why I just didn't seem to concerned it was because after getting stuck in an elevator last week and having it drop down a few floors twice and the light fixtures bust out of the ceiling and the installation fall all over me watching the rock come down was nothing.

Thanks to Wally for showing us the Peralta rock. I was really glad to see it, well really look at it, as I had walked by it a dozen times not realizing the carving was on it.
The Supes are amazing and I love to hike out there and get to know the trails and learn new things about the Superstitions. I am going to have to read a few more books to get to know the history better. Oh, wait, I will just hike with Wally again!!

Although I have hiked the Ridgeline several times (one time should have been enough :) ) and not to mention both the Peralta and the Cave Trail I just loved the views from this side. The Ridgeline is so close but completely different. I didn't realize that there were so many pine trees up there behind the Hoodoos. Looking back at the Needle was a completely different unobstructed view. That was pretty cool to see. I loved it. Thank you Kat for a great hike and great friendship!
On a side note... I can never seem to find any satisfaction with hiking shoes. They all seem to hurt my feet. For some reason I decided to wear my very comfortable, very cheap, and yet super soft and comfortable Columbia shoes. They don't hurt my feet but they are really only good for trail hiking (not that I am on trails a lot) but that is about it. I should have worn my Keens because there was so much over growth on this trail that I had limited protection from all the cactus and sticker bushes. I was constantly taking cactus out of my shoes, feet, and legs. In fact I think Kat pulled a piece out of her leg when she got in the car and touched it on the seat. Anyways, one day I am going to find the perfect hiking shoe! :pray:

Two hour drive to the TH (18 miles on a dirt road).... just enjoyed being the passenger (Thanks K) Loved the view. You can see both the Roosevelt Lake and the Saguaro Lake from the saddle. I thought that was pretty cool. Saturday's weather was great but you would not want to do this hike in temps above 90. Surprisingly enough we had a lot of shade on this hike. It made what could have been a very hot hike more tolerable.... still managed to get a pretty good sunburn. Loved going from desert to pine and the flowers and smells were very prominent. Pretty remote area we turned onto. No other hikers on that particular half of the hike. Thanks for the hike K!!

Hiked under a blue moon for the first time ever. A little out of my league hiking in the dark. I kept my lamp on across the Tonto for sure, but Bobbi and Robert I don't think used a lamp one time. This is the third time I have hiked the canyon in the last ten months; however, this was a completely different experience. The sounds and animals and critters were just amazing. Definitely a little scary for our friends behind us that got harassed by a couple of mountain lions. I joked with my hiking partners because they were traveling at Bob Speed so I pretty much can say "I hiked the Grand Canyon all by myself.... in the dark"! :)

We were planning on hiking Robbers Roost but when Kat remembered she had to work :( I decided to just do Flatiron. It was a cold, windy, sprinkling day and I would never have believed that 100 plus hikers would be on this trail had I not seen it with my own eyes. Guess I am not the only crazy hiker.

Slipped a lot going down... probably about five times. Of course each time I fell someone going up seemed to be right there close enough to witness my graceful condition. 8)

This is a good hike for anyone wanting to see new views in the superstitions. I always like spotting the needle for the first time when out hiking. On this trail the first view of the top of the needle was perfect! The first full view was even better.

The hike description is pretty accurate. I have hiked the upper canyon now using two different trails. The trail that swings wide and then straight up a very rocky mountain until you get to a couple huge boulders to climb up and over and now the trail that keeps tight in canyon. I prefer the 2nd as the views are so much better. Both trails cross, well actually, join about 3/4 miles (+or-) from the ridgeline. Just know that there will be some boulder climbing, trail finding, snake awareness and oh yeah SCRATCHES, lots of scratches (catclaw is worse on the swing wide trail), and don't count on seeing anyone. We didn't see a single hiker on the east side. Of course you would have to get up early in order for me to see you. What's up with beginning a hike at noon anyways?

I really enjoyed everything about this hike. I am sure that I will do this trail again. Maybe next time I will go up the cave and then down the canyon. We will see.

One last thing.... In my last journal I talked about packing better food. Well how about just packing food "I FORGOT MY PPJ AT HOME IN FREEZER", go figure. I always have trail food in my pack so I was fine but THANKS to Kat I still got a PPJ as she had packed two. Thanks for joining me Kat! :y:

Got off to a great start and end thanks to our "Shuttle Angels", Kat and Trish. Thank you both! :) So GREATFUL not to have to drive back to Carney after that hike. Next time girls lets be on the trail together. However, don't ask me for at least a year if it is going to be the ridgeline. 8-[

We started at Carney Springs and ended at Mining Camp Restaurant parking lot. My new favorite spot as it felt like a mile was cut off.

I was able to hike at my own pace which was great for my knees. When we had lunch I began to realize that I should up my game when it comes to packing food. Yes, I ate my usual pbj.
Really enjoyed this hike, even if I complained a lot about how this hike is UP the entire way! (Well... till the end when it is straight down)

Great trail. Great weather. Great friends, Great views. Great hike. Great day!
