Started up the Aspen trail, goes steadily uphill for about an hour (at my not very brisk pace). Then up and down meandering through the forest for about another hour to the crossroads. Back down Marshall Gulch to the car in about another hour. Moderate pace.

Wow what a fantastic day up on Mount Lemmon yesterday! It was 100 degrees when we left the house for cooler climes, thought we would take a hike in the mountains for a bit of respite from the heat. Half an hour later found ourselves in the clouds with blowing rain and lightening and thunder and hail! 50 degrees on the vehicle temperature gauge!! Got to the top of the mountain, had a pizza at Cookies and Cabins and then off for a hike after the rain subsided. Found ourselves walking in the clouds on the Aspen trail. Such a different feel to the mountain, a perfect day in the end.

My first trip up Esperero. Gorgeous day. I was off to Bird Canyon and just started to drop into the canyon when I ran out of steam, I knew I should have picked a higher energy day!! Good color though, next time will drop all the way into the Bird Canyon so I can post pix to that hike!

Just a couple of weeks ago, autumn finally came to southern arizona. Water was flowing after some nice fall rains, so it was off to Sabino Canyon for my annual fall foliage fix. Aaaaahhhh, December in Arizona--awesome! That afternoon, I took Bear Canyon Road to Sabino Dam, then followed the water in the canyon that is below the tram road over to the lower portion of the phone line trail and back out Sabino Road. A quiet and peaceful outing, trams were done running by the time I was on my way out later in the day.

Well we went up to Mount Lemmon the first week in November to see what was left of the fall colors. Pretty muted in general, but we got lucky here and there. Being originally from the midwest, I needed my autumn color fix. Note to self, do not get sick again during peak color season!

Well I just posted the photoset for this hike, linked with Mint Spring. I didn't realize how many flower pictures I had until I posted. I never met a flower I didn't like....

Well we almost missed out on this little gem because a triplog from July of this year said the Carter Canyon/Mint Spring trail was no longer maintained by the FS and there were lots of downed trees to climb over. No trees in the way on our trip. The trail is a little narrow here and there, but for the most part in good condition and well maintained. Great trail, very enjoyable with quite a few wildflowers, got my fix of them.

We took Mint Spring trail to the Wilderness of Rocks and hiked that for about 1.5 miles, and then back out. Minimal people, very quiet and peaceful. Love those Catalinas. We probably will try the Mint Spring-Aspen trail or Marshall Gulch loop next time. Over all, a pretty good aerobic workout on some of the steeper areas.

The evening we arrived couldn't have been better. The sun peeking through the clouds really reflected some amazing colors on the canyon. Then the next day a tour in the area around the Rim, Imperial Point, etc. I love this place...

We hiked up Harding Springs and across the rim and back down Cookstove and glad we took that route as Cookstove seemed much steeper and rockier. What can you say, the striations in Sedona rock are just incredible!

Yowsa! That's all I can say! This was my own personal My Everest and am happy to report that I succeeded--eventually that is! The altitude really got me, I am used to elevation of 2500 or so, so it took me quite a while to the top. Have some awesome pictures to show for it because I will probably never go back! Incredible views!

I love the West Fork of Oak Creek!! The best part REALLY begins when the trail ends, once you get into the water and continue an easy meander down Oak Creek. The pictures really speak for the themselves! What a great, relaxing way to spend your day!

We set out on the AB Young trail with the determination to find the Vultee Plane Crash site from 1938. Gerard Vultee made airplanes way back when and had just left Williams AZ when he ran into a nasty snowstorm. He and his wife perished close to the rim southwest of the East Pocket Lookout Firetower, which is found about one mile past the end of AB Young trail. Some of the pictures are of the crash site and the incredible view of Secret Canyon and Vultee Arch region. Too bad it was so misty, nice for hiking, not so much for good colorful pictures. Fun day.

This was a pretty nice trail, we started at the top and worked our way down the mountain...it was much sunnier and more exposed than I thought it would be. We will do this again, uphill next time and and when it is a little cooler.

Truly a spectacular trail! Breathtaking vistas, sweeping meadows, and tranquil forest awaits you. Parts of the forest abound with wildflowers and eye popping colors. So great to see bright green, being originally from Michigan I really miss that sometimes. The cool in the air was much appreciated. The altitude for me slowed me down a bit, being a Tucson low lander and all. :D Soooo worth the effort to the summit.

We decided to hike the entire Butterfly Trail from top (Milepost 23) to bottom (Palisades visitor center). Doesn't Butterfly Trail sound like such a light and airy hike...NOT! Serious hike up and down 1800 feet in 5.7 miles...a really good workout. Great idea to make it a shuttle hike, thanks Desertboots! Beautiful scenery and foliage.

We decided to go exploring on Mount Lemmon to escape the June heat, and we found a delightful Trail just across from Palisades Ranger Station at milepost 19.5 on Mount Lemmon Highway. Beautiful foliage awaited us from the very beginning of Lower Butterfly Trail. We headed east on Kellogg Mountain Trail (#45) and across to Incinerator Ridge Trail and the views were most rewarding. We turned around when the trail became a bit too rocky for our liking, but apparently there are really excellent views out to Leoplod Point via this trail if we were to continue. Next time we are going to start at the trailhead at milepost 23 and take a shuttle hike down to Palisades as recommeded by Desertboots, thanks for the posting and suggestions in your hike description!

Started at 0630 because I thought it would take me six hours to get to the top. Very happy to report it took me five!!! It was quite the workout, I must say. My husband and I were awestruck by the views, which get more dramatic by the step. I can see that lunch at The Window will be a new tradition for this hike. It was quite chilly and very windy up there. And scary! Just a small 8X10ish area in front of the Window in my opinion is not enough room to keep vertigo at bay! :D The descent back down was rocky and a little hard on the legs. Well worth the kick butt trail to the top!
