2017 Frye Fire
Brand new fire going on Mt. Graham ... I assume it was started by lightning from the storm that passed through. It's not on Inciweb yet. I can see it from my house, but I am not great with the landmarks up there ... guessing it's in Marijilda Canyon or somewhere nearby.

Re: 2017 Frye Fire
Over 17,000 acres now, active on all fronts, largest active fire in AZ, multi-million dollar International Observatory saved through heroic effort, 600-700 hundred people working ... barely a mention in Phoenix news.

@rwstorm
Good article. I figured that was back burn I was photographing last night. Good news is the aircraft are up today - I wouldn't be surprised if they start dipping water from Roper. Was astonished to see it burn so low yesterday and today.
I do believe the whole mountain will be black by the time this is over.

Now strep hits the fire crew (hopefully disassociated from the Roper incident)

Re: 2017 Frye Fire
Just got latest update - almost 30,000 acres now and "expected to reach Turkey Flat"
Taken minutes ago from Dankworth Pond - I think that was Noon Creek Picnic area or Arcadia Campground going up.
Sprinkler system at Turkey Flat.

Re: 2017 Frye Fire
I'm going to assume that the majority of the forest on the mountain will become a moonscape of blackened matchsticks, as most of the photos and reports coming out seem to show extensive tree torching and plumes. I really want to see more photos from up there, and some new infrared or progression maps, just to have some hope, though. Graham means so much to myself and to Gila Valley residents, and watching this devastation is almost unbearable.

Re: 2017 Frye Fire
Super Depressing...Makes me Doubly Regret not getting there this last Year... I imagine it will be quite awhile before I return.... Time to find a new Favorite Place in the State I guess.... Coronado's Management of this Sky Island is the worst I've ever seen...

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming, "Wow What a Ride!"

@jonathanpatt
Well that's pretty sorry. Haven't checked my rain gauge yet, but I know we got quite a bit more than that at Roper!

Some Mt. Graham rec sites survive Fyre Fire
http://tucson.com/news...Here’s good news for people who love recreation sites in the cool forests of Mount Graham near Safford: Many of the sites have so far escaped the ravages of the Frye Fire that has scorched more than 48,000 acres around the mountain...
Sites including the Noon Creek, Ash Creek, Soldier Creek, Squirrel Camp and Riggs Flat Lake areas show no apparent damage in photos from the Coronado National Forest.
