Top: Théâtre du Châtelet was built between 1856 and 1862 at the request of Napoleon III and his Prefect of the Seine. In 2017, the theatre began a period (2017-2021) of renovation and upgrading work, at a cost of 35 million euros.
LL: These four limestone sculptures of the Châtelet , which had disappeared in the 19th century, were reassembled on the terrace of the Parisian theater. The four allegories of the show: dance with its tambourine, drama with its dagger in hand, comedy with its mask and music with its lyre.
LR: duo atop the Théâtre du Châtelet. Apparently they could only obtain confirmation as to the year they were put there – 1862 – and that they were indeed made of lead and holding a lightening rod.
