Once again, so much intricacy we didn't notice when there, but I really noticed in my photos.

On the corners of the tower these have statues that are symbols of the four evangelists, which are the lion for Saint Mark, the bull for Saint Luke, the eagle for Saint John and the man for Saint James. And it is on the north We were heading toward this tower. This photo shows the west corner that the statue of Saint Jacques le Majeur dominates the platform where the meteorological station is installed.
These statues, along with the gargoyles and the eighteen different statues that depict saints, which adorn the walls of the Tour Saint-Jacques, were all restored last century.

The Way of St James.
The tower's rich decoration reflects the wealth of its patrons, the wholesale butchers of the nearby Les Halles market. AND this is particularly relevant since we would be hiking part of the Way of St James in a couple days in Spain:
It was built in 1509 to 1523, during the reign of King Francis I. With a dedication to Saint James the Greater, the ancient church and its landmark tower welcomed pilgrims setting out on the road that led to Tours and headed for the Way of St James, which led to the major pilgrimage destination of Santiago de Compostela.
