Up the Vault Mine Trail to it's intersection with the Agua Caliente Trail is one very steep struggle! Then over to Agua Caliente Saddle, which is a gorgeous spot for a well deserved break. Next was the hikers route up a ridge to its intersection with the road near the top of Hopkins. This section is also very steep. A short walk up the road to the top, then back down the road to the picnic area for another break (and my traditional one dollar coke from the soda machine).
From there we continued on down the road to the breakaway point for another hikers route down to the Agua Caliente Trail. Then we completed the hike by heading down yet another hikers route to the Carrie Nation Mine, where a more established trail took us the rest of the way back. In this lower canyon section we heard another trogon, but didn't catch a glimpse of it. |
