I can't say enough about this hike. We all have different preferences but this was my favorite hike during our stay in Taos. At the lower elevations there were roaring streams and dense jungle like vegetation I was not expecting. The vegetation thinned as we made the steep climb toward Lobo Peak. Across the ridgeline was mainly forest and great views. We were above tree line for only about 1/4th mile before to 1/4th mile past Lobo Peak. Views from Lobo were amazing. Descending Italianos was just as great. More mushrooms on this hike than I have seen anywhere at any time. I would call this the hike of a thousand mushrooms.
If you find yourself in Taos do this one. It is quite strenuous measuring 11 miles and about 4,000 feet AEG. |
