| partners | | I made a visit to the B-24 crash site 4 years ago after doing the Humphrey's summit but did not get to see the entire site because we were fatigued by then and didn't want to continue scrambling over the rocks there. So on this hike Hank and I only went to the crash site and were able to see it all.
The remains of the 66 year old wreck are scatted over about 1/4 mile and about 200 feet of elevation from 11,100 feet to the high point at 11,330 feet. We entered the site at about 11,200 feet and climbed up to the high point which has the best view of the entire site. So now there is a track posted with the end point being the highest level recommended for this hike. It would be a good idea to have this track loaded on your GPS. There are a lot of cairns to follow as well but it would be very easy to go off the off-trail path when doing this hike. And the climbing over rough trail and rocks is not easy so mistakes would be costly.
Yet another great day on the trails. |
