Hiking up, I saw remnants of snow at 9900 feet, but most of the snow was confined to non-south facing slopes above 11,000 feet, with an average 6 inch depth. I saw one tough lady coming down from the summit hiking in sandals, but surprisingly, there were not too many people on the trail. I lingered long on the summit, enjoying the snowy Peaks, and the distant golden aspens of the Inner Basin. It was a very special day, full of beauty and peace. This hike was the highlight of the fall for me, and a great end of season adventure on one of my most favorite peaks.
After the hike, I continued into Flagstaff for dinner, then made the drive back up to the Grand Canyon to camp out for the night. Numerous elk attempted to commit suicide in front of my truck on highway 180, but none suceeded.
