I missed out on a Goldwater Lake hike earlier in the day with the rest of my family, but I figured I had just enough time to pull off a Thumb Butte loop. It had been a good 10 years since my last Thumb Butte hike. I went up from the trailhead, left the trail, scrambled up a steep little chute, and was at the summit in 30 minutes. Watched the sunset from on top, descended to the trail, then completed my clockwise loop just before dark. Then it was off to La Fonda for Mexican dinner...
