If you want a beautiful fall hike with a splendid array of autumn colors, get thyself to the Reynold's Trail NOW. The deciduous trees are at their peak along the trail from the trailhead to where you reach the maximum elevation of about 7500 feet (where you have an option of heading down to the location of the old ranch or continuing on around the loop). Go tomorrow if you can - this weekend at the latest. I'll post some pictures tomorrow (Wednesday, 11/2) so you can be enticed to partake. Didn't see any bears, but saw the largest pile of bear scat that I have seen in AZ - right in the middle of the trail and quite fresh (last day or so). If you continue on the loop that is originally described in the trail description, there aren't nearly as many deciduous trees so the colors are not nearly as spectacular. Plus the trail is very had to follow for the first mile after leaving #150 - I strongly advise loading one of the GPS tracks on this site into your navigation aide and following that. After the trail becomes more distinct, it also becomes very, very steep. That is why you should do the loop in the counter-clockwise direction. The real advantage of continuing on the loop is for the viewpoints to the east. It was an exceptionally clear day today, so that may have been Mt. Baldy on the eastern horizon. Wow! However, if you go in the next few days, you may want to retrace your steps back down #150 just to see (and photograph) the trees with the sun more from your back. Allow enough time, because you will want to stop quite often for pictures. Enjoy.
