I didn't make it to the second gate as it was late in the day. Got back to the car for an awesome sunset, smiled and drove home. Came back a 6 days later and 3 hours earlier. Hiked to the end with a few 1-3 minute stops. As I came up to the end of the trail (where it intersects the AZ trail), there was a group of about 11 mtn. bikers. (crazy folks)
We chatted & I made sure to compliment them on their obvious craziness (which prompted whoops from at least 3 of the group, as they circled around the available clear ground). I inquired if they were the end, at which point they informed me there were 3 more (mtn. bikers) coming down from Molino Basin.
I milled about after changing into some warm & dry clothes, ate some food and watched the 1st rider come up, notice the trail fork and cuss. (He was obviously a little worried about not catching up to the group, AND not {initially} confident at which path to take. I immediately informed him as the 2 other riders skidded in behind him). He thanked me and they went on down after a minute or two.
I waited about 20 minutes, proceeded back down the trail and killed another 15 minutes exploring down the canyon & taking some pics.
Made it back to the car well before sunset and drove home. |
