We've done the loop hike before, but not this one, and it was pretty cool for an out & back hike. We had struck out yesterday when we were wrongly informed that the Tucson Mtn range allowed dogs. We drove all the way over there, got all geared up only to read at the TH sign NO DOGS! I should've known better, as pretty much all of Tucson is a very NON-dog friendly town!!!
We got started a little after 1, and I was in a t-shirt & shorts the entire day! That's how nice it was. We saw a few people toward the beginning of the trail, but past the creek, we didn't see a soul the rest of the afternoon. There was still some water in the washes, but not a lot. At the junction of the Arizona Trail, there were a few pools, but that's it.
Looking out at the Agua Caliente side, it sort of reminded me of Wyoming, kind of a brownish-meadowy look. The first 1/4 of the hike, there were a lot of bees because there was an abundance of these really pretty purple bushes that were in bloom. If anyone can tell me what they are, I'd love to know, they're gorgeous! I posted pics.
On our way back, I noticed a pile of rocks on one of the saddles not too far from the creek bed. When I stopped to check it out, I saw a bottle of tequila caribbeanered to the tree, along side a register box. The register box had a shot glass inside. Too bad, I don't like tequila, and I told Tugger he was too young to drink that stuff, so we signed the register behind Sirena and moved on to finish up the beautiful afternoon. |
