The Ridge trail offers great views of both creeks and Agua Caliente Peak. A lot has changed along the first mile of this trail as a couple of new houses sprang up and the old abandon shack is now restored. Steep first potion of the hike up to the forest boundary, I believe this portion use to be a jeep trail because it attacks the hills straight on but the footing is good since it is on rock surfaces that appears to be glide faults. Once in the national forest the trail becomes a little easier. No water along the creek with the exception of a few pools. The water was pretty nasty looking though. One of these years when the creek is flowing a bit it would be nice to explore upstream from where the trail crosses the creek the first time. The canyon looks well behaved for some distance above that. Saw two hikers when we were heading up and two hikers when we were heading down. two pairs of bikers on the way up. I believe we managed to get a little sunburn on this hike, the sun was intense and the temps around 80 when we finished. Did see a pair of deer on our return trip as we were crossing Milagrosa Creek, I was amazed at how fast these two deer got up that steep slope, probably less than 30 seconds. |
