| no partners | | While visiting the Safford BLM to inquire about the Chiricauha Mountains, I ended up walking out with an Aravaipa permit for the day. I haven't been out to the canyon in many years and have never been up Turkey Creek to see the cliff dwelling. I made the dwelling my main destination for the day and after parking at the canyon boundry, I headed up Turkey Creek. There were many people car camping along the creek all the way up to the dwelling and I could see why, this canyon is beautiful! Hiked up the short trail to the very nice little cliff dwelling and then back down and out of the canyon to the Aravaipa canyon boundry. From here it was time to change into my water shoes and get my feet wet. The foliage along the creek is greening up nicely, but still needs a few more weeks to fill in. I made my way up to just past Hell Hole canyon were the saguaros appear and made this my turn around point. I had many awesome animal encounters on my trip including 2 deer on the drive in, a little duck that followed me for about a 1/2 mile down the canyon, a sounder of javelina along the creek and the highlight of my day was an up close encounter with a coatimundi!!! |
