Did an overnight to try to get my Dad and Earl back into backpacking since they insist that they want to do the Grand Canyon from Rim to Rim before they die. :o I got to teach them how to pack a backpack in preparation for possible swimming, voluntary or otherwise. Had to laugh because they had thought that the drybags go on the outside of the pack, so they had bought HUGE ones. :sl: Tyler joined us, too. I even managed to get everyone into hammocks, which they loved! The water was way lower than the weekend before (according to triplogs), but still much higher than I'd ever seen. We didn't need to do any swims, but I did anyway. :D

Left the TH at around 9:30am after Mike and Tiffani had to bail on us due to a fuel leak. The road was pretty rough and I guess it knocked something loose in the supply line... or something like that. Bummer! We took the hiking slow and still managed to reach our camp across from Horse Camp Canyon before 2pm. Took a little time to explore that area, had a snack of cheese and crackers and margaritas, then set up camp and made some tasty grilled burgers over the fire. I got way too many mosquito bites, :( but they were totally worth it. Didn't see much larger wildlife - one coati.

First trip out with DIY summer underquilts. I let the guys use them, and they reported no issues, though it only got down to somewhere in the 60s so I can't wait to try them somewhere cooler!

Awesome trip with some of my favorite guys.
