Unfortunately some of the people that have been saying they wanted to hike this one with me all backed out so I did it alone. Crazy thing is that once I went up to the Flatiron which is the side I started on I never saw another soul all the way to Carney Springs Trailhead. Not a single one. I took it easy and slow to since it was my first time accross the Ridge and really encountered no problems until I decide to bag 5057. I have done it once before as a trip up from Carney and back down and signed my name into the red can. This time I must have not gone up the Hoodoos the same way because it seemed extra difficult. Once I was about 2/3rd of the way up the side of the rocks one of the rocks I was holding onto gave way and came crashing down. It scared the crap out of me as I saw my life flash before me in about a second. A few scrapes and a pounding heart I decided to back my way down and just continue on the trail. I am not sure if there is an easier way to the top of 5057 but there must be because although it wasn't an easy climb last time it didn't seem like this. I was on the South side of the Hoodoos. Beyond that it was a pleasant hike down to Carney. I hiked a couple miles up Peralta Road and hitched a ride from there. Solid day for sure. |
