| partners | | What a gorgeous trail! Since the road is still closed, we undertook the extra distance and made this a fairly long day hike. It was well worth it, and even the views from the road were enjoyable. The Aspen forest is absolutely gorgeous -- it seems to glow as the light reflects off the white of the bark. I've heard that this area is sacred land, and it's not hard to see why.
Once we came out above the forest, the trail really began to climb, and the last leg up to the Weatherford trail had me wishing for something flat. I was rewarded -- Weatherford is almost immediately flat or gently uphill. The views from the Saddle were slightly anti-climactic, but we did get trapped in a picturesque hail storm. We took comfortable cover under a giant pine tree, and the hike down was almost completely temperate, with a mild sprinkle for the last mile or so. I can't wait to do this again once the leaves start changing! |
