I headed up to either do my first snowshoe trek high up or lower snow hike of the season. I made it up only to the Round the Mountain TH (5300 ft) before deciding that further travel up the road was too dangerous due to the hard ice on the road. Lower snow hike it was and Noon Creek is a great place to do one! Headed up the trail from the picnic grounds hiking in about 2-3 inches of hard snow and made it up to the RTM T hitting about 4-5 inches before dropping down to the creek. I had planned to hike the loop, but the RTM crossing was just to deep & slick so I followed the ridgeline past the slickrock slabs before dropping down into the canyon and following it back down to the Hwy. Had to really take my time and hike carefully along the snowy creek today and I somehow managed to keep my feet dry all the way back down!
For me, it just doesn't get much better than hiking on a beautiful snow covered sky island! |
