| no partners | | I've been wanting to hike this trail for some time and finally got up early enough to give sufficient day light hours for the hike (I'm kinda slow). I used GPS Joe's GPS track which helped in a few places where the trail was faint on the south side approach to the mesa. The rocky trail is a real ankle twister. Saw a javelina skull along the trail - a highlight for me since this was the closest I've been able to get to one of these beasts in 3 winters of hiking the AZ desert. Another highlight was spotting an old airplane crash site below the north east end of the mesa - I searched for this crash site last year but failed to find it. It was far below my view point from the mesa so was inaccessible on this hike. After returning home from the hike I was able to find the crash location on Google Earth using pictures I took from the mesa - now I'm ready for another attempt to hike into the crash site but the terrain looks fairly treacherous. |
