The descent was pretty brutal due to a raw spot I had rubbed on my foot last week on the Spencer Trail (yes, I made it 38 miles on the Paria through sand & such with no injuries, and on a 3 mile hike get a big boo-boo! ) But once we got to the river & put our feet in, all pain was washed away. Either that or they just became numb from the 50 degree water!!!
After a nice long break by the rapids, Anne accompanied me on my desire to explore the Beamer Trail a bit while the boys stayed & played in the sand and water at Tanner Beach. I wanted to go down to the confluence & back, but I think John would be the only one I could convince to do that without backpacking! So I definitely want to go back to explore that route, as the mile or so in we hiked on it was simply stunning!!!!!
I am super excited to knock off another trail first at the GC, and I absolutely LOVED it!!!!! Not only because of the scenery, but because there was hardly ANYONE on it the ENTIRE day!!! Tanner Beach is a super cool place to hang out and there are sweet camping spots! We also got a treat & right as we were about to leave, a whole fleet of rafts came down river, so we got to watch them go over the rapids. What fun!!!
We had perfect weather, and almost the whole hike out was shaded. We purposely played around at the beach for a while to wait for the shade, and it worked out great!!!! That ascent was an ass kicker for sure! Was glad it wasn't 105 for it! |
