| no partners | | I really wanted to check this area out, but got a super late start. Figured it was best just to hit the pools and then head back, as I wasn't entirely comfortable risking getting caught out there in the dark alone.. the canyon portion sounds totally doable, but I'd feel better about it if there was more time for daylight, or if there was someone else there.
Canyon hikes in the Superstitions that include water are among the best hikes there are in Arizona! At least, in my opinion. Once I hit La barge, I really slowed down, just because of all the beauty. I hadn't taken a camera with me other than my phone camera, in order to save on weight in case I did decide to hit the full loop. So, apologies for lack of quality. Just an excuse to go back, I suppose. Had lunch alone at the pools, sang some CCR and some Dirty Wine to myself and then picked up pace and headed up and over the Battleship saddle. There were a lot of people camping in Boulder Canyon, which got confusing because they were all over the trail, so the cairns weren't super apparent at the wash crossings. Got back to the car with about an hour of light left in the day. Glad I didn't complete that loop. This hike convinced me I need to do more solo hikes. It's nice to take my own pace no matter how slow or fast I want to go. |
