Alex, Joel and I started planning a Supes Trip, but they weren't sure where they wanted to go. Somewhere in conversation, Lower Box of La Barge came up and come to find out, neither one of them had been there. So that was decided. I mentioned the Trip that Brian (BEEBEE) and I had done earlier this Summer and they liked it, since neither of them had been to the Canyon Lake side either.... :)

Since it's a Shuttle, we wanted an early start, so I picked Alex up at 5:00. We ended up having to backtrack to the QT in Apache Junction to pick up a Tonto Pass, which come to find out, we may not have needed. (I need to call the Ranger District and get a Final Verdict on this...). Met Joel and Muesli at Canyon Lake and we all piled in his Truck for the Trip to 1st Water TH...

Got on the Trail right at 7:00 and made good time down Second Water Trail and through Garden Valley. I was half jogging down the steep descent alongside the Drainage and was doing just fine on the loose Rock until I decided to go Off-Trail for a moment and check out my favorite little area. Two steps in and the loose Rock gave way and I fell on my a**. :pk: :o Immediately got up and pulled the dead piece of Cholla out of my Thumb that my hand had landed on. Joel provided some very handy tweezers for one stubborn piece and then we pressed on....A little Road Rash on the leg, but I've done much worse playing ball, so no big deal...

Other than that little stop, we made it to the Box in no time. I was actually a little surprised that the Water was so low, considering the Rain we just had, but there was still 3 big Pools and a little bit of Flow. Got to the back by the last big Pool and took a nice Break, eating a little Lunch, playing with Muesli, and watching the Guys play on the Rocks, trying to get around the Big Pool. I have Video.... :D

After our Break, we made our way up La Barge Creek, intersecting with the Boulder Canyon Trail. And the long climb out commenced. Almost immediately Joel had to stop and tend to Muesli, so Alex and I went on ahead. Alex eventually stopped to wait for Joel, but I kept going, knowing that those two would catch me soon enough on all that Uphill. I looked back at one point thinking that they had to be closing in, and saw Joel running back down the Trail towards the Creek. :o :-k I figured he either forgot something or just wanted to get some more mileage and AEG in.... Either way, Muesli wasn't having it. He laid down on the Trail, and watched him go... :sl: (In reality, Joel told him to stay...) :)

Since Joel was still on his feet, and I knew Alex was still above him somewhere, I just kept going. I felt much better on this Uphill than I did when Brian and I did it, probably because it was a little cooler this time... :) Hard to believe that I did it, but I managed to make the top of the last Hill before Joel and Muesli caught me, followed in a few minutes by Alex.... For once, people weren't having to wait while I was stopping to gasp for Air... :y: Came to a part of the Trail where it split off and I couldn't quite remember which way to go, so I told Alex and Joel to go one way and I went the other. I figured they both ended at the Highway and I turned out to be right. The Guys' Trail was more of a direct downhill, whereas mine was the Scenic Route, following the Water in Boulder Canyon before it dumped into the Lake. The Guys beat me to the Car by just a few minutes and had already broken in to get Drinks....(I didn't tell them where I hid the Keys...)

Relaxed for a few and then hit the Road to go back to 1st Water to get Joel's Truck. Parted ways with Joel and Muesli there and I went and dropped Alex at his Hotel so he could get in his Post-Hike Nap... :)

It was a great Hike Guys and thoroughly entertaining!!! Joel, it was nice to finally meet you, and Muesli is a real Sweetheart! : app : Alex, another fine day in the books, thanks for the invite!!! Love this Hike and it probably won't be the last time I do this one either....

(Small comment on the Video...I'm laughing at Alex jumping because it was about the "10th Take"... :sl: ) :D

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming, "Wow What a Ride!"
