| partners | | Bruce got off work a little early and Joe and I met up at his house to head up to the north rim to camp out for a Saturday morning hike.We ate dinner in Cameron.We were going to stay down low somewhere after the big boulders.It was warm so we figred we would just drive up the last half hour to our morning meetup place with JJ and camp there.How cold could it be.Brrr.Just a little more than we thought .JJ showed up a little early and we were hiking at 8-something am.Joe said this should be the best passage on the north rim and he just might be right.The views,trees open meadows were great.Maybe it's just me but the wood fences around the waterholes seemed to add some extra hiking ambience.Of course the company was top notch.JJ had snacks and is trying to move up the nice guy ladder.Missed the Preacher and Nick but hope to join up with them next week to do the last couple AZT passages.We crossed paths with a through-hiker(fireweed) and I learned a new term.She called us slackpackers.I guess that's a term for us hikers that dayhike the AZT.She had been hiking the AZT since March from Tucson. .Very nice passage and I enjoyed it! We saw one Turkey,One Porcupine going to the trailhead and many deer on the way,during,and after the hike. Thanks to Bruce for driving and JJ for the shuttle. |
