| no partners | | Hiking the Lost Ranch Ruins yesterday made me want to hike Bursera Trail today.I got a late start(8:03) but went anyway.If you have seen the movie "Outlaw Josey Wales" you can relate to this story.Do you remember when the Indian guy hiding from the bad guys slips and slides down scree on the mountain side?Ok here is my story.I'm about a 1.5 miles in and I here some noise a little way up the side of the mountain.I may or may not of let out a scream or gasp.A Tortoise slips on some scree and starts sliding down the hill.Right before he hits the trail he catches a rock and lands on his back.He flips back over in a instant.Here we our eye to eye.Tortoise to Tortoise.We look at each other and crack up laughing.We know we are both safe.I notice he has a litttle shell damage by one leg but looks to be from a previous injury.We compare scars,exchange pleasantries,and bid each other a good day.He was long gone when I came back through.I'm pretty sure he was ok.It was hot out but good to see a fellow Tortoise!    |
