I met up with Bob's friend Ben who had helped Mike Armstrong (the blind guy) complete the Arizona Trail. Earlier this year Ben had hiked with us on the north rim and was going to do 40 and 41 but he got a flat. That put a wrench in his weekend plans and he decided to come back and do it later. This worked out great for both of us as I am doing the trail from north to south now.
We took his truck to the end of 40 and then he took me to the northern terminus of 41. From there he took my Jeep back to the start (south end) of 40. He hiked passage 40 from south to north and I hiked both 41 and 40 from north to south. After we finished up we took his truck to the end of 41 for the following days hike and headed back to the motel in Marble Canyon.
The hike was incredible. The weather was brisk at first and then warmed by mid day. The aspen trees were mostly gold and yellow. I saw several deer which is to be expected on the north rim. All in all it was just a fantastic day to be out hiking and what a great place to be doing it. |
