| no partners | | I was planning on hiking the Horton Creek Derrik loop, but as I was driving up the 87 Tonto Basin was covered in smoke, Poco Fire, Young AZ. After turning on to the 260 the closer I got to Horton Creek trail head the less visibility there was so I turned around and went to the Pine trail head. The air quality was much better. The morning temperature was pleasant and half a mile in on the Pineview trail I spotted two Doe up on the hill in the trees, very nice. The first mile of the Highline trail is a little steep but shaded, as you progress it becomes more open, great for views not so much on a hot day as it turned out to be. I went out past the Red Rock Spring (no spring to be found except a empty tank)a short ways before heading back and going up the Donahue trail to Milk Ranch Point. The trail was easy to follow and not too difficult other than the heat. Once on top, the views were great looking down at the town of Pine. After wondering around on top, I headed back to the trail head very hot and very sweaty. |
