| no partners | | After 20 years of wondering exactly where the route of the wagon road went (and locating part of the route and a few old hand forged nails on my 14th birthday trip to Jerome), I found a 1905 topo map of the area with the route on it. Now I was anxious to explore...
With a cool, autumn day off from work, I started from the south end of FR 503A, just above Mescal Gulch. A little over a mile later and I was on the old wagon road route. The fall scenery, views, and the answer to an old question combined to make this a memorable outing.
I ended up doing a loop by taking Highway 89A back, as the hour had grown late. The highway doesn't really have a shoulder in most places, so there was quite a bit of guardrail hopping as cars went flying past me.
I enjoyed the route and the scenery. The history just added to the experience. |
