| | | After our meetup and introductions at the Barnhardt Trailhead we set off on the Y-Bar Trail, following a large trail maintenance crew. The sun was hot for March, and our break among the pines below Cactus Saddle was quite welcome. The ascent of Mazatzal Peak's southeastern ridge was easier than I would have guessed, with avoidable cliffs, although there were some moments of brush surfing. We spent over an hour on the summit, enjoying the view from the roof of the Mazatzals. The descent into the drainage running off the north side of the peak was quite fun, with plenty of rock hopping and a few unexpected waterfalls. Eventually we stumbled onto the Barhardt Trail, our route home. We had a tailgate party back at the trailhead, relaxing and rehydrating, while waiting for the rest of our group.
It was an outstanding adventure with great folks. It was nice to meet you Berk, John (juan), Brian, Johnr1 and Steve, and great to see you again Bob, Dave and John (lp). It was wonderful to finally summit the highpoint of my favorite mountain range. Woo-hoo! Hopefully this will be the first of many trips to the summit.
Thanks for organizing this one Bob!
