It was really a bait and switch and Mr. Heartless aka tough_boots was on board for White Mountain 6100. Got to the trail head around 8 with the plan of hiking up for the Perseid. Wasn't disappointed. Stopped at the Reavis grave, but couldn't find him in the dark. Most of the time when Kyle agrees to hike with me we come back in the dark we hours. This time I changed it up on him and we came home after sun up. Enjoyable hike particularly because night bushwacking leads to a whole lot of missteps and profanity screaming. I'm pretty sure Kyle equaled if not bettered me in this department. We got to the summit log to find out we we're the last one's to visit in 4/11. We saw lots of tarantulas along the way and Kyle took pictures of poop. I played around with my camera learning the night features and successfully got no pictures of meteors. I did however, enjoy my frozen 32 ounce Gatorita as we watched a pumpkin lot of meteors and wondered if the fog/haze coming in below us was going to make our return trip even more difficult. I played with a snake that was either a good replica or a poisonous coral snake unfortunately with no sleep I couldn't remember the rhyme. We stopped by and visited Reavis on the way back. The company was great and neither of us would probably have good memories of the hike if we hadn't spent 2+ hours watching a good Perseid show in perfect temps with a nice cool breeze.
P.S. I think my Gatorita has some marketing potential in the hiking circles.
Pps. Why doesn't anyone ever summit this peak? It has the best I mean WORST! views in the entire Supes. |
