6:35am Wally and Dave wanted to get on the ridge south of Rough Canyon and glass for other ruins. This trip up White Mtn was considerably more enjoyable than our previous excursion on Mar 6th. Along the way Wally and I checked out peak 6,030 cause that's what real hikers do while the balance of the crew took an easy route.

8:48am We topped out on White Mountain. Bob was cold so he bolted. The game plan here was to head down and get to some vantage point on the ridge below. I wasn't sure which ridge as it looks like a sea of ridges and canyons below. Pretty neat and I was curious where Wally was going to lead us.

9:30am We arrived at the southern end of a shear wall banded mesa (about 5,811 up top). Dave and Bob tried to summit while the sane crew moved onwards.

10:20am(ish) Amy, Wally and I arrived at the Rough Canyon Ruins overlook. We didn't see any other ruins as hoped from above so we moved on. At this point we thought B&D were way ahead of us since we saw them on a far ridge shortly prior.

10:35am(ish) We arrived at 5,100 saddle (the "O" in Tonto on Toh-poh) then noticed B&D out at the ruins overlook. So we decided to lunch and wait. They appeared to be wobbling around and not moving at B&D speed. Later we learned they didn't know we were on the saddle across the ravine so they were probably talking over what to do.

11:20am The full group was on the prowl again heading down to a 5k saddle above Redwood Spring. Getting over there proved a little undesirable. With Bob in the lead it was kind of like speed boxing. While the number of punches was high the next hit came so quick you didn't have time to whine about the previous one.

11:58am We attained the saddle. At first things looked a little grim and we weren't sure what to do. After a look at the map it appeared hope was in sight and Rogers! Canyon was closer than anticipated.

12:30pm Arrived at 5,145, sort of a peninsula saddle just right of the red 2 on topo. Life got good here as we spotted Rogers ruins down the canyon or Trough Ruins as Dave4 calls 'em. I knew we wanted to angle towards the TH from several previous trips down below and recall looking up thinking... someday. Heck someday was happing now!

1:20pm Hopped onto Rogers Trail after a painful eighth mile through dense catclaw.

2:32pm Back to the TH

Summary While the immediate rewards on this hike aren't worthy of a return I'm very glad I got to see this terrain. Thanks Wally for another great hike. Good to meet Amy.

I'm using my second backup GPS after water damage to my Oregon last year and lost my Vista yesterday on Sheep Ridge. Unfortunately the old Magellan can't upload/download to anything but TOPO! which can't repackage the data into anything but waypoints. I got 4,800+ AEG on TOPO! but tapered it down to Wally's reading.

Wildflower Report Lots of wallflowers and the #109 is sidelined with a bunch of pretty blue flowers. I chose the moderate rating as it's definitely a step up from light in many areas.
