| no partners | | My original plan was to drive up to Flagstaff and hike Humphreys but I decided I didn't want to spend the time nor gas money on the trip up there. Plus the temps were going to be pretty pleasant this morning so I decided to focus on a hike closer to the valley. It's been a while since I've hiked up to Flatiron so that is what I chose.
I started my hike from the Mining Camp Restaurant around 6:30am. The temps were relatively cool for August. I noticed right away how humid it was out. I was soaked in no time as I made my way up. Luckily the entire hike up was in the shade. Before long I climbed up and out of the draw. I continued all the way to peak 5024. There is an interesting flag up there that you can sign. I added my name below Juan Jaimeiii and sat for a quick breakfast and coffee. The sun was starting to come out from behind the clouds and the temps were starting to go up.
After I finished eating, I hiked back down and did a stroll around Flatiron. From there I made the return hike back down the draw and was back at the car in no time. There were only a handful of people on the hike up. Most of them were near the top of the draw. By the time I was back to the car, it was very warm and sunny. If you do this hike during summer, start early and be done early.
On a side note, my GPS Route is messy. The track went way outside of the draw on the hike up. I tried to clean it up but made it worse. I started over and just posted what I have. |
