| no partners | | I have been up/on Flat Iron many times, but never to Peak 5024, so off I went, up Siphon Draw. Also, I wanted to visit the site of the plane crash that occurred Nov 2011. That was a sad day indeed. The HooDoo that the twin engine plane actually hit, will probably stay blackened (by the burning fuel & oil), for a long, long time. There is a very nice memorial plaque just below the HooDoo.
I hiked up on a Saturday, & alot of hikers were going up to Flat Iron. However no one was going to Peak 5024, & no one seemed to know about the crash site either.
As reported earlier, there is a new flag on Peak 5024. This flag appears to be a substitute for a standard "Summit Log". You can log-in by writing on the flag itself. Supposedly, there was a pen up there to "sign" the flag. Not anymore. You better bring your own writing instrument. After logging in on the flag & taking alot of photos, I did some exploring on Peak 5024. I then hiked over to Flat Iron, to take more photos.
All in all - a rewarding hike experience. |
