| partners | | Kyle and I met up for a loop hike in the Mazatzals. Our hike began heading up the Barnhardt Trail. We were hoping for some water flowing over Big Kahuna but it was just a seep. We continued on and the trail levels off as you approach the divide. I wish I wore long pants because the Manzanita is thick in the upper portions of the Barnhardt trail.
We eventually connected on the Divide Trail and started following it south bound. It was obvious the trail has not gotten much use this summer because it was a little overgrown in places. My legs took a beating fighting our way through heavy brush with lots of thorns. Besides that this is a very nice hike with wonderful views all around.
We took a break for lunch at the junction with the Y Bar Basin Trail at a nice campsite. From there we headed down the Y Bar which was in great condition overall. It's a very rocky and rugged trail but the route finding was relatively easy. The recent maintenance work earlier this spring was excellent! Thanks for all those that participated in cleaning up this trail! |
