| no partners | | I took a very rainy drive out to Desert View today.
I have been wanting to check out that area anyhow, and my plan today was to go to Lipan Point and hike the top part of the Tanner Trail, down to 75-mile saddle, on my new Ranger friend's recomendation ... however there was no way I was going to attempt that beast in the rain, so the day turned into a low-key, pleasant, touristy day.
Desert View was very nice - the worst of the rain stopped as I arrived, and I walked all around, and checked everything out - including the nearly empty campground.
The Watchtower was more beautiful than I was expecting, and the view of the River from that area is fantastic.
Enjoyed a cup of hot "desert tea" on the patio of the trading post.
Next I stopped at Lipan for a quick look, then stopped just down the road at the Tusayan Ruins. Walked through the tiny museum and around the Ruins Trail and Gathering Loop.
On my way home I decided to go look at the Grandview Lookout, and see what the campsites look like in the National Forest around there.
I would have liked to climb up the tower, but I didn't see anyone up there, so I just looked.
Next I drove my car a little farther on the wet forest roads, down 310 and 307 towards Hull Tank and Hull Cabin. Saw a very nice campsite just down from the tower that I would love to occupy for a night or two.
The Hull Cabin area was completely quiet and peaceful - really lovely.
As I was investigating the barn, a hummingbird became interested in my red camera, and buzzed all around me several times - close enough that I was fanned by the wind from his wings ... very cool. Also heard some turkeys in the forest.
Saw several groups of deer along the road home. |
