Slept in, had a leisurely morning, and hit the BA at about 10:30 under mostly cloudy skies.
Arrived at mile and a half resthouse just after 11am - temp 80 degrees ... as high as I would see all day.
31 mins to three mile resthouse.
It took me about an hour to reach Indian Garden from there, because I was enjoying the new scenery and the pleasant trail - I really like the stretch between three mile and I.G.!
Indian Garden was lovely once I finally arrived - I spent close to an hour and a half checking it out, relaxing, and refueling. Watched some deer, soaked my feet in the creek, and generally enjoyed myself greatly ... I must spend a night here soon!
Took 55 mins to get back to three mile ... feeling really good the whole way. The trekking poles I used for this hike completely eliminated the increasing knee pain I have been feeling on uphills lately.
Close to an hour more brought me to mile and a half, where I met two people who I ended up hiking out with. I forget the guy's name who was visiting the park on a cross-country drive, but the other was a Park Ranger, who entertained us with great stories about her encounters. Turns out she grew up in Mesa and loves the Supes like I do ... she was Pinal County SAR, involved in the searches for Jesse Capen and the the trio of treasure hunters a few years ago. Credit her company - and pace - with the fact that I shattered my best time from 1.5 mile, by reaching the top in only 30 minutes! Hope to hike with her again soon.
Oh yeah, and the weather was perfect - completely overcast, temp around 70 degrees, and breezy. Great day for Canyon hiking! |
