| no partners | | Today I found out that locals are allowed to drive the closed roads to Hermit's Rest and the South Kaibab TH/Yaki Point - so naturally right after work I drove myself to the SK trailhead.
Unfortunately, it was raining pretty good there, and more worrisome - there was lightning. I sat in the car for a few minutes to see if it would pass, but it didn't, and not wanting to be on Windy Ridge or any other ridge in the lightning, I retreated ... went back to the Village, where the weather was much more agreeable, and hiked the BA down to 2-mile switchback instead.
Not too many people on the trail today.
With the departure of the seasonal PSAR Rangers, the only NPS guy I saw was a Backcountry Ranger on his hike out from his 8 days on duty ... I will miss the seasonals. And I bet there will be alot more clueless hikers caught out unexpectedly in the dark now, too.
Also saw one of the most vibrant rainbows I've ever seen. |
