| no partners | | South Kaibab to just below Skeleton Point today.
One hour and 19 minutes down. One hour and 50 minutes up.
Saw my first and second mule-trains.
Was hiking along minding my own business when a large-bodied insect flew into my left cheekbone at full speed and immediately began biting or sting me - it continued biting for a couple of seconds until I could grab it and fling it off me, causing me to shout obscenities that I had not previously said in the Canyon! I'm not sure what it was, but from the glimpse I got, it looked like a large bumblebee with blue wings. Hurt like a mother for a minute or two!
I almost stopped at Skeleton Point, but there was no shade there so I continued down a few more switchbacks and was surprised to find an amazing view of the River. Really glad I didn't stop at the Point. I could hear the river clearly for the first time, and I could also see Bright Angel Creek running next to the buildings at Phantom Ranch. |
