I took my camera, binoculars, and water and headed out. My plan was to go find a bird that I had found before, trying to identify it. I walked north, downstream of the San Pedro. Then worked my way to the river bottom and walked the water back to the confluence of the Aravaipa and the San Pedro. Then I worked my way back to the house. Beautiful trip. It's absolutely a blessing to live in such a beautiful place.
After discussing identifying markings with Outdoor Lover Pam, I know now this bird is a Gray Hawk. The barring on the underside of his tail feathers gave him away. Next time, I'm charging my camera battery before I go out there. Although I don't think I would have been able to get a pic this time, as soon as I took the binoculars down he flew. I'll go again!
