1st trip
Cindyl picked this for the weekend's destination, and since I had Friday off I was able to hit Wasson Peak on the way down from Phoenix, have a nice lunch in Tucson, and make an emergency stop at REI and still make it to Bog Springs CG in time to snag a campsite there. We had agreed on the destination, but not decided on our return route, so while I went for an evening stroll in the woods and stared down a fox along the way, Cindy stayed with the campfire and checked here on HAZ and found one that sounded good.

We were up, fed, fueled and ready to go early in the morning and were on the trail just after 8. A few other hikers hit the trail about the same time as we did, and we leapfrogged with one pair a couple times on the way up to Josephine Saddle. We took a little longer break than they did, so we had the trail to ourselves from there to Baldy Saddle. After a break there (mmm, caffeine!) we set off on the Crest, new trail for both of us, and quickly made our way to the turn off point for the off-trail segment of the hike. We followed sirena's description and made our way carefully along the ridge line out to our destination. We discovered the summit register wrapped in a ziploc inside a broken glass jar, signed in and then settled down to enjoy a break and the views before heading down. For some reason, I usually enjoy this kind of less visited sub-peak more more than the major peaks that always seem to have a crowd on top, and this one offered some great views.

We backtracked along the ridge just a bit to a spot where we had a short descent to get back on the Crest Trail, then followed it out to Pine Saddle, where we shortcut down to catch the 4 Springs Trail where it crossed the saddle of a little knob. Thanks to the person who submitted their track, it was helpful having it in the GPSr and with Mt. Ian added made a nice alternative very comparable in mileage and AEG to the summit hike.

I really enjoyed coming down the 4 Springs Trail. After being up above with Florida Fire damage all around us, it was nice to get back on the west side of the ridge into an area that it missed. The trail tread is good and it didn't seem like it sees much travel. We paused for a short break at Kent Spring, before making our way down from there to pick up the Pipeline and then Super Trails back to the trailhead.

As we drove back down to camp, we had to pause for a moment to let a dozen turkeys cross the road. By then I had just enough energy left to collect and chop firewood, make some dinner and settle down for a beautiful evening by the campfire.
