The trail is in good condition and you'll see a great desert landscape on the way up the mountain in the canyon you're going up. Then higher up on the mountain you're in a forested area which gives you a great feeling as it's good to be around the pines. Too bad there wasn't any snow up on the mountain, or any rainfall so the maiden pools would have had something in them. Bone dry. At the window the wind blows in there like you wouldn't believe, it felt great and made me cold being in the shade up there with the wind. Getting up to Window Peak isn't too hard, I picked my way by going around to the east side and then headed up a slope and then climbed a small chute which led me up great. I saw cairns once I was up there but felt better doing it the way I went. Came down the same way and then went back down the same way. Going down will take awhile but you can go at a fast pace since there won't be too many people out there to get in the way or slow you down much. Great hike, mine was 13.5 miles on my GPS as I did a little exploring at the top. |
