| no partners | | Went up Kimball yesterday, with hopes the weather would hold and I would be able to do more up on the Catalina's. I got up to the summit in just over 2 hours. Dark clouds loomed over the entire time and I couldn't see 100ft in front of me once towards the top. The trees and cactus were covered in ice but no snow wall falling once I arrived at the summit. The wind was gusting pretty heavily up there, 30-40mph at least I would say. Spent a few minutes at the summit but couldn't see anything 50ft in front of me now. Put on my jacket and took a few photos. Decided to head over to the window once up there but on the way over snow flurries began to fall and visibility had gotten worse. My camelbak nozzle and hose froze up on me so I made up my mind to turn back and head down. It was a great hike up there though, nothing tough. Just a steep trail taking you up quick the way I like it. I liked the finger rock trail better than the Ventana trail as it doesn't wind so much. Will be back in due time to tackle this one again and actually see what's around at the top. Enjoi |
