The Superstition Ridgeline is one tough hike!! I had done a GC R2R the weekend before, and this hike was much more difficult IMHO, in fact, this is my toughest Supe hike to date.

I was under the false (now humorous) impression that once up the Flatiron, the hike across would be gravy and basically horizontal...not so. Prepare for loose, slippery descents, class III climbing/scrambling and route finding basically from end to end - - can't imagine the added difficulty with Summer heat! WOW....

Otherwise, this hike was AWESOME (5 kokos)!! Great views the entire way...the route finding and climbing are actually fun and helped to get my mind off all the pain in my aching feet!

Seems like every group hike I participate in, there typically is one poor soul that gets hurt in some capacity or another. Today was my turn. My first injury occurred at "the wall" on Flatiron. I opted to climb left, using the tree to pull myself up. However, w/o looking, I slammed my head into one of the other thick branches, leaving a small cut and a huge lump on my head. The next injury happened on the Boulder Canyon decent as I was cautiously maneuvering around an agave/Spanish Dagger. Somehow I slammed the junction of my index/middle finger BONE DEEP (no homo) with a sharp agave leaf. This sucker BLEED big time...my entire left hand was nothing but red, gory, dripping mess. Tough_Boots was kind enough to assist with my injury and we quickly got the bleeding stopped. A small band aid to cover the puncture and 8" of tape and I was back on my way. Those agaves are VICIOUS. Kyle and I discussed the possibly of human death from those suckers...seems very feasible.

The HAZ troop was great as usual. Nice to meet non-HAZer Sarah (studmuffin hiker) who I actively tried to recruit...hope she signs up!

Really GOOD November weather...slight breeze to keep us cool. Wonderful views from Carney.
